Perfection

TOP TIPS

Have you ever wondered why your full face of makeup doesn’t look so appealing at the end of a working day? Maybe you get dry patches of skin around your nose, under your eyes or even around your mouth? Maybe your makeup tends to look blotchy and not as smooth as what it was when you applied it? If yes, I am here to give you a few simple tips, products and skin care regimes I have applied to my own life to avoid such dilemmas!

Firstly we need to steam the face. There are many ways you can do this but my personal favourite is to use our trusty lemons! Commonly used to help detox our bodies and make us feel as good as new, so why not let it help clean our pores also! So you need to pour boiling water into a bowl and squeeze half a lemon into the water. Place your head over the bowl and if you like you can put a towel over your head (but you do not have to). Do this for as long as you please, I normally give myself 5 to 10 minutes with a break in between. This Process helps to free any dead cells, and dirt or bacteria that could be causing breakouts. Now your skin is in better condition to absorb any skin care products you might use afterwards.

Secondly and most importantly we need to cleanse tone and moisturise our face, this way we can keep our skin glowing with natural beauty all day every day! I have faith in Organic products such as those from The Green People where their products are 100% organic!
Foaming Face wash, is a soap free, alcohol free, anti blemish face wash. Containing just a few natural ingredients one of which being green tea. If you Click Here you can see the variety of products they have and you can chose one that sounds perfect for you and your face.
Toning our face is also very important; the main benefit of using a toner is the tightening of your face and the shrinking of facial pores.
Moisturising completes the skin care regime it should address three main things; Hydration, sun protection and the smoothing of your skin. In addition it can even our skin tone and help prevent wrinkles.
All of these products can be found with The Green People, or you can try another one of my favourites Neal’s Yard Remedies. Just Click Here.

Thirdly we should be looking for the right foundation. Do you have oily or combination skin? If so you should be using a foundation specifically developed for your skin type such as Bobbi Browns Oil free compact foundation. Or maybe you suffer from dry skin? If so the same case applies. Maybe try MAC Face and Body foundation which contains moisturising emollients. Always make sure you are using coverage for YOUR skin type. There are many options out there and going with a professional makeup brand such as my first pick of MAC, Bobbi Brown, Parasax, Illamasqua or Benefit. Apply sparingly, even I have made the mistake of applying too many layers of foundation to my face in the past but If you apply a light coverage and go from there you will see the foundation bring out your natural beauty and allow your face to glow after such a fabulous skin care session.

Fourthly Yes, of course, we need a lovely light powder!! Powder will set your foundation, the inner corners of your eyes, under your eyes, around your nose and gently brush over your face. I must admit I am enjoying The Green Peoples pressed mineral powder. It’s a lovely light powder that you can even use without foundation if you wish to. It’s organic, protects you from the sun and comes in an array of shades to suit your skin tone. MAC has a beautiful translucent, featherweight sheer loose powder. I find that it works effortlessly to set my foundation for a full working day. Yet again with an array of shades, its suitable for all skin tones.

From Red Alert to Gothic Chic

Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013 Paris

Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013
Paris

Last year for our Autumn/Winter season we had the ‘Red alert’ inspired by many designers such as Jonathan Saunders and Nina Ricci. I fell in love with red wine lipstick all over again. Following 2012’s trend, this year we are seeing not only a hot red but so much more. From MAC CosmeticsTemperature Rising’, Sultry shades of lipstick, glowing satin peach and berry pink frost powder blush. To Nars CosmeticsSummer Shock’ modern and unexpected combinations of eye shadow shades and a sophisticated satin lipstick such as Tolede.

In saying all of this my FAVOURITE trend and one that has been paraded all over the catwalks is ‘Gothic Chic’ inspired by no other than Lisbeth Salander from the very popular Film Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Chanel, Donatella Versace, Giorgio Armani and Valentino, to name a few, have all made big bold statements on their fashion runways this year.
From Stella Tennant opening for Chanel in black feather painted eye makeup, print and pattern, extended over her face, to Armani’s new Prive Collection taking us on a Turkish adventure.
With a bold statement in mind, it is safe to say, without taking the look too literally of course, with a radiant and glowing face rather then a flat and pale face, this can be a strong, independent and romantic look for you or one of your clients this season.

Late last year and early this year, I worked on a couple of photoshoots with ‘Gothic Chic’ in mind.
You don’t need to wear too much makeup when you have a strong bold lip colour, however I went against a few rules and tried a couple of experiments that I will share with you.

Face – Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising with my current favorites from Organic range, Neals Yard Remedies. I then used a full coverage foundation from French Professional Makeup line, Parasax and a lovely compact powder from The Green People. Then using ‘Dixie’ cream blusher from Illamasqua for the first photoshoot and BenefitsOne hot minuteBronzer for the second photoshoot. This left both of my models flawless and glowing radiantly.

Eyes – For both photo shoots I created a very different eye, as you can see in the images above.
A black Liner with some smoke and mascara for the first shoot using NarsNight series’ and Macs black gel eyeliner. For the second shoot I experimented with some bronze and gold metallic eye shadows from Mac. Blending the shadows right to the brow line and also under the lash line.

Eyebrows – You may notice both models have dark, full eyebrows. This gives the finishing touch, using any eyebrow pencil or shadow of your choice, however I chose to use Bobbi BrownsDark Brow Kit‘ for this particular look. The dark brow kit comes with a duo of two shades to choose from and creates an easy application for you with a small angled eyebrow brush.

Lips - Both Lip shades coming from a range of never used lipsticks at the bottom of my makeup kit.
Melting them down and finding a deep dark purple and the deepest red I mixed together the perfect ‘Gothic Chic’ shade.
Lining the lips with the colour first and then filling in the gaps. You don’t always need to line the lips with a liner you can simply use the liner to fill in the gaps to create a more natural effect.

My Top Tips :)
1 - Not everybody wants a strong bold lip colour and if you still wish to create a ‘Gothic Chic‘ look, you most definitely can! Replacing a deep dark lip colour for a softer nude or a fresh pastel pink/purple as long as you’re still keeping the brows, eyes, and cheeks defined and your face light and radiant.

2 - Brow shaping is important, especially with the current trends in the industry. Our eyebrows have the ability to brighten up our face, so start shaping!! Also using an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow shadow, whichever you feel more comfortable with, you can fill in the gaps still making them look natural yet flawless.

3 – Gently exfoliate and moisturise your lips just as you would normally do with your face!! Be sure to be gentle as our lips are incredibly sensitive, but you will notice a huge difference when applying your lipstick or gloss for the day. Smooth and Juicy!!

4 – Last of all, The golden rule has always been ‘to not play up your eyes and your lips’!! However I think its time to be creative and free! This season is all about experiment. Have fun with your makeup kit and enjoy your makeup application everyday. Summer is here and its Europe, so its not here for long. Make the most of it by feeling fabulous, creative, strong and independent!

‘It has become for me a visual enquiry resonating with emotional intensities of perception, form and space. My passions is for making images. I have two main ways to creating images. An idea pops to my head, I am drawing this in my sketch book and then try to find the objects, models, backgrounds. The way i work is assembling some objects and themes, that fascinating me at that moment.’

Myself and Jenny back to work again, this time with Nottingham model Frances Baker.
It was -2 degrees on a very cold Wednesday morning when we decided to do a photo-shoot in the snow.
It is a shame there was not much snow around, however we could definitely feel it!!
With a beautiful dark lipstick I created myself from a few old MAC lipsticks in my kit and Frances’ incredibly long luxurious hair – we were able to capture a Classy City Chic look.

Sweet Christmas

It has been a long time coming, but I am back for the Christmas season with a few little treats up my sleeve.
I need to show a few prints I received back from Miss Jenny Sneap from our shoot early in November.
We decided to try and capture a different side to Christmas this year, One I know many can relate to.
The theme was ‘I’ll be lonely this Christmas’ – we did a series of photos, different outfits, hair and makeup. Jenny chose the best three prints to publish and here they are for you:)
